With the ability to earn over 200,000 IHG One Rewards points, business owners partial to IHG properties will have plenty of reasons to pick up the card. Let’s take a look at the offer, benefits of the card and whether it’s worth grabbing for you.

Earn over 200,000 IHG points with new welcome offer

The IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card has had a large welcome offer in the past, granting cardholders the ability to earn up to 140,000 bonus points after meeting minimum spending requirements.

Now, that offer has been increased for a limited time to:

  • Earn up to 175,000 bonus points: Earn 140,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 in the first three months and an additional 35,000 points after spending a total of $7,000 in the first six months.

There are two things to note about this offer:

First, the spending requirement has increased by $1,000 to earn those 140,000 bonus points. This is a definite downgrade, though business owners with regular expenses should hopefully not have much of an issue spending that additional $1,000.

Second, this offer is tiered, encouraging cardholders to continue spending beyond the first few months of card ownership.

Another lump-sum bonus of points is nice, but before applying you’ll want to crunch some numbers to see if those 35,000 additional points are worth putting an additional $3,000 in charges on your card.

The IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card earns 10 points per $1 at IHG Hotels and Resorts, another 10 points per $1 as an IHG One Rewards member, 6 points per $1 from IHG with Platinum Elite status (a benefit of this card), 5 points per $1 on travel, gas stations, select advertising and restaurants and 3 points per $1 on all other purchases.

If you meet both bonus requirements by spending on travel and select advertising, or at gas stations and restaurants, you’ll walk away with up to 210,000 IHG points in your pocket.

Is it worth it?

Although IHG has moved to dynamic pricing, 200,000+ points is nothing to sneer at. Websites such as MaxMyPoint and Awayz by Odynn make it especially easy to see when and where it’s best to redeem your IHG points for maximum value.

Take, for example, this four-night stay at the Intercontinental The Clement Monterey, which will cost you $1,367.66.
